Its name derives from the ancient people “Apodoti” who inhabited the south-western continuation of Vardousia Mountains and Mornos Valley. Ruins found in almost every village but also many villages’ names, such as: Ellinika (Greek), Marmara (Marbles), Paliohori (Old village) verify that the area is inhabited continuously from the prehistoric times.
